Microsoft to Build $3B AI Hub at Former Foxconn Site in WI
During a trip this week to Wisconsin, President Joe Biden announced a $3.3 billion investment by Microsoft to build an artificial intelligence data center in Racine. The new AI hub will be built on the same site as the previously heralded Foxconn $10 billion mega-project.
Taiwan-based Foxconn’s plans never materialized, and now Microsoft will build a new AI data center on the same land. The new Microsoft facility is expected to create 2,300 union construction jobs and 2,000 permanent jobs. “We will use the power of AI to help advance the next generation of manufacturing companies, skills and jobs in Wisconsin and across the country,” said Brad Smith, Vice Chair and President of Microsoft.
Microsoft will invest $3.3 billion dollars into the state over the next two years as it expands its national cloud AI infrastructure capacity and builds a state-of-the-art data center campus. The announcement is part of a broader effort to invest in industries, including $866 billion in private sector investments in clean energy and manufacturing and 51,000 infrastructure projects across the country.
